THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER has named Amy Huberman as a contender for an Emmy nomination, thanks to her performance in the RTÉ legal drama Striking Out.
THR’s TV columnist Scott Feinberg has compiled a list of predictions ahead of the Emmy nomination voting, which is open for Television Academy members until June 26.
Each category has a list of frontrunners, but also some ‘major threats’, ‘possibilities’ and ‘long shots’ – and named as a ‘major threat’ for Best Actress in a Limited Series is one Amy Huberman:
Up there with Viola Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Felicity Huffman… Nice one.
Striking Out was a big hit for RTÉ in January, and stars Huberman as a Dublin solicitor forced to strike out on her own (geddit) after her fiancé cheats on her.
It aired in the US on Acorn TV, a streaming service that brings the best in British and Irish telly overseas.
In his review of the show back in March, Feinberg praised the writers for staying away from the clichés of American legal dramas, as well as Huberman’s ‘magnetic’ performance.
Huberman is excellent at conveying the world-spinning realisation of what just happened, how much it hurts, and also, fitting of the real world, how quickly she must act to get the hell away from said fiancé.
And now he’s saying she could be Emmy-worthy. How’s Amy reacting to the news? She’s eh, broken out into a ‘threat sweat’:
The nominations will be announced on July 13 – and we’ll be keeping our eyes and ears peeled.
