17 lovely reactions to Australia voting Yes to marriage equality

Over 7 million people voted in favour.

LAST NIGHT, THE results of Australia’s postal survey on same-sex marriage came in, with over 7 million people – 61% – voting in favour of Yes.

The overwhelming success of the vote has led to Prime Minister Malcom Turnbull saying that it was “absolutely my goal” to get the same-sex marriage bill through parliament by Christmas.

There were joyous scenes across Australia overnight.

9. The Queen of Australia herself welcomed the news

10. Some of the signs, as ever, were inspired

11. Just like in the aftermath of the Irish vote, people stressed that *nothing* has changed

13. Justin Trudeau led a flurry of international leaders welcoming the news

14. Irishman Tiernan Brady was Director of the Equality Campaign, so he was in fine form

15. And got praise lavished on him by Panti

16. We can add marriage equality to “large spiders” as things we associate with Australia now
