BARBECUE SAUCE IS a delicious accompaniment to chicken wings, pulled pork, ribs, and other grilled meats. It is not, and we repeat NOT, good on a pizza base. This is a fact.
We believe not enough people are taken to task for this crime against pizza. Here’s exactly where they’re going wrong.
A BBQ sauce base upsets the delicate harmony of the pizza
BBQ manages to both sweet and vinegary at the same time. It’s obtrusive, where tomato sauce allows the toppings to shine.
Nobody needs to eat that much BBQ sauce
It’s one of the few sauces that gets very sickening very quickly. Let it go.
And it always sneaks in where it isn’t wanted
You get sucked in by the delicious toppings and hit order, not realising until the pizza is in your sticky mitts that a treacherous BBQ base lies beneath.
Worse still, people use it as a means to get a sneaky pizza to themselves
“Oh wait, this one has BBQ sauce on it.”
“AH NO!”
Crafty traitor, piping up from the back: “I don’t mind BBQ sauce.”
There is absolutely no reason why you can’t just have it as a dipping sauce
None at all. We must sever the illicit relationship between pizza base and BBQ immediately, and serve pizza as it was meant to be served – with delicious tomato sauce. That is all.
