MERE WEEKS AFTER U2 smashed Croke Park, they’re already thinking about their next album.
OR SO IT SEEMS.
Taylor Swift isn’t the only one dropping cryptic clues about potential new music, but U2 are taking a slightly more old-school approach to it.
Fans on the band’s mailing list have been tweeting their confusion at a letter sent to them, which appear to confirm a new song called ‘Blackout’.
Most of the fans appear to be in the States
The text of the letter appears to reference William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and Experience, the collection of poems that inspired Songs of Innocence.
Two silhouetted figures censor the text, and read ‘Blackout… it’s clear who you are, will appear U2.com’.
Some eagle-eyed fans have spotted that the silhouettes appear to be Bono’s son Eli and the Edge’s daughter Sian who appeared on screen during the band’s Joshua Tree concerts this year.
Fan website u2songs.com also speculated it would be the cover of their next album.
We had originally been told that the cover of the next album would feature two different children of U2 members, and that they would be walking away from the camera. So it remains to be seen if this is the actual cover to Songs of Experience or just a photo from those photo sessions for the cover.
But the last sentence is the most intriguing:
“U2 will announce…. on….”
Whatever happened to just releasing music out of the blue?
