Car thieves forced to abandon robbery because they couldn't use a manual gearstick
THREE KNIFE-WIELDING men who tried to steal a car this week had to abandon their plans, because none of them knew how to work a manual transmission.
The men pulled a blade on a delivery driver in Springfield, Massachusetts on Tuesday night and demanded his takeaway cargo – as well as the keys to his car.
However, they then noticed the motor had a manual gearshift.
Police sergeant John Delaney said the thieves argued among themselves for a little while, before legging it on foot with only the food.
The driver was not seriously hurt, and kept his car. In the US, most cars are fitted with automatic gearshifts.
