There's an island in Japan where cats outnumber people and it's called 'Cat Island'

And obviously the internet has lost it.

THE INTERNET HAS been obsessed with cats for some time – but now there is an ideal destination for those people to take their love to the next level with a cat-themed holiday.

Home to over 120 feral cats, Aoshima Island has just 22 human residents. It used to be deserted until this year, when tourists started flocking to the island off the coast of Southern Japan when word got out that it was nearly all cats.

Here are shots from a news report of the island – which people have dubbed “cat island”

Describing the island as “an army of feral cats”, Reuters went on to explain that the island’s human population is slowly decreasing and there just aren’t enough people there to stop the cats from breeding – meaning that they are growing in numbers.

There is a small ferry over to the island from mainland Japan, and it has started to see a ridiculous amount of tourists travelling once word got out. Usually, the small fishing island doesn’t see many visitors.
