People with tricky Irish names related hard to Catastrophe last night

Muireanns of the world — it’s your time to shine.

LAST NIGHT, FANS of good television rejoiced as Catastrophe returned to our screens for its second season.

The first season of Catastrophe ended with Sharon’s waters breaking after an almighty row with Rob. This season, the pair are married and living in a (very lovely) house with one child, Frankie, and another on the way.

Traditionally, the arrival of a child ensures that all sitcoms become really unfunny — we’re looking at you, The Mindy Project.

But we’re pleased to report that Catastrophe is actually warmer, funnier and more biting than ever, as evidenced by the glowing reaction to last night’s episode on Twitter.

Yes, everyone enjoyed the episode, but Irish people derived enjoyment from one scene in particular. (Warning: spoilers ahead.)

In the episode, Sharon gives birth to a baby girl and names her Muireann.

Only problem? Nobody can pronounce it. (Except for Sharon and her Irish family, of course.)

Muireanns everywhere rejoiced.

In fact, everyone with an Irish name was able to relate to the struggle.

Meanwhile, non-Irish people were flummoxed.

Welcome to the world, Muireann.

And welcome back, Catastrophe. We missed you.
