An impromptu trad session broke out on the Clare Island ferry and it's just joyous
CLARE ISLAND, JUST off the west coast of Mayo, was basking in sunshine yesterday – just like the rest of the country.
And it was yesterday that Rory Donnellan set out with a few lads for his stag party on the island.
Among the group, his brother Fergus, friend Denny Collins and Rory himself all play a bit of trad from time to time and had brought along their instruments for the craic.
Given the fine weather, they were on board the Clare Island ferry yesterday afternoon when they decided to go to the top deck and bang out a few tunes. And they ripped it up for the American tourists sitting up there
Luckily the driver of the boat was on hand to capture it on his phone and it’s gone viral on the ferry’s Facebook page today.
Denny, playing the fiddle with the shades, told DailyEdge.ie how it started:
It was on the sun drenched top deck that they found an enthusiastic audience:
They stayed on the island last night, and kept the session going in the local when they hit dry land
Denny and stag Rory play in the band called Going for Chips together, as well as various other musical outfits between them. They just can’t get enough of the trad:
Those American tourists probably won’t forget their trip on the Clare Island Ferry any time soon
And on the return journey today the lads were at it again – this time with The Saw Doctors’ Clare Island
