CNN claims that ISIS is 'luring' women using kittens and Nutella

That’s us done for.

LADIES, BEWARE. IF someone approaches you in the street and promises you kittens and Nutella, they’re probably just trying to get you to join a terrorist organisation.

At least, that’s what CNN suspects ISIS is trying to do to recruit more women:

According to Adweek, CNN’s Carol Costello was discussing ISIS-run social media accounts, which sometimes depict fighters cuddling kittens and holding jars of Nutella.

She hypothesised that this was to appeal to Western women:

ISIS is talking online about jars of Nutella, pictures of kittens and emojis. They want people to believe their life on the battlefield isn’t so different than yours. They actually eat Nutella, and I guess they have pet kittens.

However the woman to the left of the frame - Dr Nimmi Gowrinathan, an expert on women in conflict – was explaining that Nutella and kittens would probably have little effect on potential recruits. From Vox:

The fight for ISIS is a fight for a caliphate. It is a political fight, which goes a bit deeper than social media.

But when faced with the opportunity to run a caption like that, how could you resist?

As you may well imagine, Twitter is having a field day with it:

We know for a fact that many of our female readers (and female staff) are at risk here. Be safe, everyone.
