IT’S WITH A heavy heart that we bring you the news that the cult TV show Community has been cancelled by NBC after five seasons.
The show, set in Greendale Community College, created by Dan Harmon and starring Chevy Chase, Joel McHale and Alison Brie has failed to achieve its goal of #SixSeasonsAndAMovie (explained here by Matt Moore).
Harmon today tweeted this following the news:
It’s a sad end to an hilarious, random and often touching show.
Here are six reasons (rather than seasons) why you should still watch every single episode:
The paintball episodes
Episode 23 of the first season (Modern Warfare) and the two part finale of the second season (A Fistful of Paintballs/For a Few Painballs More) saw the Community cast take part in epic paintball battles.
Excellent telly.
Troy and Abed
The pairing of Dani Pudi and Donald Glover is a joy to behold, from their Troy and Abed in the Morning talk show to their end credit carry-on.
Breaking the 4th wall
Not only does Community regularly reference (and satirise) other TV shows, films and popular culture, it’s a big fan of breaking the fourth wall in a really clever and self-referential way.
The guest stars
John Goodman, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, Nathan Fillion… need we go on?
Oh, and not forgetting Malcom Jamal-Warner/Theo Huxtable, with this excellent Cosby Show jumper reference:
The Remedial Chaos episode
This Emmy-nominated episode celebrates features a housewarming party for Troy and Abed, explored though seven different timelines. SEVEN!
Each timeline explored the effect of the absence/presence of a character.
Dean Pelton
The Dean of Greendale is played by Jim Rash, who is not only the most hilarious thing about Community, but he’s also an Oscar winner (he co-wrote The Descendants).
