A new coffee shop is opening in an actual freight container on Thomas Street
IN A CITY with 51 Starbucks stores and countless independent coffee shops, it’s getting harder and harder to stand out.
However, it doesn’t look like that’s going to be a big issue for Container Coffee, a new coffee shop will soon be opening in a recycled freight container at 161 Thomas Street.
The owners have been sharing the progress of its construction and design over on Instagram for the last 8 weeks, and it’s pretty exciting to see it come together
Founder Gordon Hickey told DailyEdge.ie where he got the inspiration for such an unconventional space.
While working in the TV industry he was involved with a show about doctors travelling around the country with a medical clinic that was set in a container.
It could easily be picked up and moved around to different locations by truck, exposing him to the less typical functions of shipping containers.
After noticing how much space on Thomas Street was going to waste, he got onto The Digital Hub about a huge open site on the street.

And after a lot more planning that he initially anticipated, he has managed to secure this spot for his container
The cafe has a seating capacity for around ten people, but its location makes it ideal for grabbing a coffee to go. He’s even been in contact with Dogs Trust in order to look for tips on how to make the café dog friendly.
They’ll be stocking Cloud Picker specialty coffee, and unlike the medical containers that inspired Gordon, this one has no plans to travel around the country.
Looking at the view from inside that shouldn’t be a problem
If all goes to plan, Container Coffee should be open in two weeks time, and will be fully wheelchair accessible.
From what they’ve previewed on Instagram, it definitely looks worth checking out the completed space.
