EMOJIS ARE OFTEN a controversial subject these days – and some people are still getting the hang of them.

And when one goes wrong, it changes the whole meaning of the conversation.

Like this son in the US who had to tell his mam that she was using the cry laughing emoji all wrong

So much apparent sarcasm in the face of such a tragic loss.

The two images were posted this evening to Twitter by @Nudah and the whole internet winced in unison at the embarrassment as they went crazy viral. The actual origins of the exchange are still a mystery – but it’s reminded everyone that emojis are a dangerous game and should only be used by the experts.

A warning for us all.
