IRELAND LOVES NOTHING more than a bit of tradition.
And what’s more traditional than a St Patrick’s Day viewing of Darby O’Gill and the Little People?
The film that gave you countless nightmares as a child is on RTÉ Two at 2pm.
Here are just a few of those WTF moments…
Seán Connery singing
Who knew ol’ eyebrows had it in him?
This never ending fiddle scene
Come on old man. We know you’re not really playing.
The horrifying banshee
Is she on me? I feel like she’s on me.
The even more horrifying death coach
The ultimate terror of the ghostly horse
Er, there’s a nice pony. Nice horsey.
The soundtrack
There are two versions of the film’s soundtrack. A number of the Irish actors (inluding Darby and Brian, King of the Leprechauns) were dubbed when it was decided that their Irish accents would be too difficult for American audiences to understand.
In this trailer you can hear an actor’s voice dubbed over King Brian, played by Jimmy O’Dea
