RECENTLY WE ENCOUNTERED an enterprising Irish chipper in Sydney that had started selling deep fried jam sandwiches to their loyal patrons.
Well, for today only Dublin chipper Super Miss Sue started serving them up as well in aid of the Simon Community and organised by the Anton Savage Show on Today FM.
It’s a simple creation – a standard plain jam sandwich encased in batter and deep fried:
Intrigued, DailyEdge.ie went out and purchased one while gathering a brave troop of taste testers to put it through its paces.
Here it is, our very own deep fried jam sandwich
First impressions?
It’s surprisingly nice. The batter is really good quality – it just tastes like a really nice dessert.
In a surprising move, every single one of the taste testers gave the battered jam sambos two thumbs up in their final verdicts.
On first seeing the battered treats the testers weren’t too enthusiastic, but everyone had a change of heart once they had tasted them.
The deep fried jam sandwich is something of a revelation, then.
Will Irish chippers embrace the battered jam sandwich on a full time basis? And what about the Irish chipper public? We’ll have to wait and see, but rest assured that they are tastier than they appear at first.
The deep fried jam sandwich has landed.
