TODAY MARKS 15 years since comedian and Father Ted star Dermot Morgan died of a heart attack.
His legacy lives on in the continued popularity of Father Ted, as well as his work on the likes of Scrap Saturday and The Live Mike.
Here we look back on just seven of the many reasons why he’s so missed:
1. Father Ted
Dermot Morgan’s most memorable role was of course as Father Ted Crilly, long-suffering parish priest of Craggy Island.
He had just finished filming his final scenes for Father Ted when he died, and he had said that he did not want to continue to play the character, because he didn’t want to be typecast.
“They all have lovely bottoms”
2. Ted and Dougal
Was there ever a more perfect on-telly duo?

3. His early work in The Live Mike
Morgan’s early comedy appearances saw him star alongside Mike Murphy in The Live Mike

6. Scrap Saturday
Dermot Morgan’s Charlie Haughey impression was one of the crowning glories of Scrap Saturday, the radio comedy show which aired on RTÉ Radio One from 1989 to 1991.
Gerry Stembridge, Pauline McLynn and Owen Roe made up the rest of the Scrap Saturday team.
