Diet Coke addict suffers hallucinations after drinking up to 50 cans a day

She claims to have spent as much as £150,000 on the fizzy drink over 30 years. SCREAM.

YOU MAY ENJOY a sneaky can of Diet Coke once in a while, but can you imagine pouring 10 litres of the stuff into yourself every day?

A doctor suggested Diet Coke as an alternative to regular Coke for Jakki Ballan, who was rapidly gaining weight as a teenager.

Though she lost the weight, she gained an addiction to Diet Coke that costs her up to £500 a month – she claims to have spent £150,000 on the fizzy drink over 30 years.

At one stage, the 42-year-old drank three cans for every hour she was awake (about 50 cans a day).

She told the Daily Mail that she’s even started having hallucinations as a result of her excessive consumption of the drink:

I see strange things like oranges flying across the room. I dread to think what my insides look like.

Jakki has tried to beat her addiction, as doctors tell her the phosphoric acid in the drink will eventually give her brittle bones. However she still drinks about 10 litres (30 cans) a day:

This addiction is taking over my life. I won’t do the school run unless  I have at least two bottles in my bag. I’ve only got one bottle in the house so I’m feeling quite panicky. I’m sweating, shaking and pacing up and down.

If this isn’t enough to make you put down your own can, we don’t know what is.
