LAST YEAR IT was revealed that Netflix had cast Irish actress Amybeth McNulty as the lead in Anne, its forthcoming television adaptation of Anne of Green Gables series.
A great day for the parish.
And today they released the first shots of Anne in the form of a teaser trailer:
Joining other notable redhead legends already on the platform.
Amybeth is playing the title character – with the series set to be available on Netflix on May 12
They describe the plot as:
Anne is a coming-of-age story about an outsider who, against all odds and many challenges, fights for love and acceptance and her place in the world. Set in Prince Edward Island in the late 1890s, the series centres on Anne Shirley (Amybeth McNulty), a young orphaned girl who, after an abusive childhood spent in orphanages and the homes of strangers, is mistakenly sent to live with an aging sister and brother.
The drama is set on the Canadian island and promises to “reflect timeless and topical issues including themes of identity, feminism, bullying and prejudice”
And it shows her taking no nonsense in the classroom
The show has been adapted for telly by Breaking Bad writer Moira Walley-Beckett, and is set to “take a much more realistic approach to the classic story by Lucy Maud Montgomery.”
Fair play Amybeth, the whole world will be glued to it <3
