CLAIRE DOHERTY HAS always wanted to be an actress, and her dream finally came true just in time for her 21st birthday.
Thanks to her brother Paul, Claire got a chance to star in her very own movie – which, as he tells DailyEdge.ie, has always been his sister’s dream.
In the epic James Bond-themed short film, Claire tries to hunt down a masked man in The Curious Incident of the Stolen Cake – and it’s brilliant.
First, Claire makes a cake for her big day
But, whilst napping, this guy jumps in and takes what isn’t his
In her pursuit of the man, Claire and friends come across a few local Donegal celebrities – including this perfect Daniel O’Donnell impersonator
It had to be done.
Still, it all ended well - as the cake was retrieved by the intrepid spies
Speaking to DailyEdge.ie, brother Paul Doherty outlined the idea behind the film – and how he convinced Donegal GAA’s star man Michael Murphy to appear:
Claire always wanted to be an actress so I thought I would make a film where she is the lead actress and when I mentioned it to Michael Murphy and Gary Gamble they jumped at it which was great.
We wanted to show people that Down Syndrome isn’t a terrible thing and that Claire lives a very normal life, she does love the camera too!
When Michael Murphy was in filming Claire was giving him tips in between clips the entire time… so much so that he asked her to come train the Donegal team sometime, I’d say that was her favourite moment of the whole thing!
