DOWNTON ABBEY RETURNED to our screens last night, with season four kicking off to a mixed reaction.
However, one dominant theme seemed to be the endless salty tears.
The episode took off from the Christmas special when Matthew died, and it’s been a long six months so of course it was going to pull on those heartstrings a bit.
Some found their reactions obstructed their view
It was ‘poor Mary’ that caused the tears. Ah, poor Mary
Her sorrow didn’t stop her from calling her child ‘an orphan’
That’s not how orphans work, Mary.
There was the added worry of an Emmy victory
Then came THE TEARS
He literally can’t wait.
Some emotional outpourings were more extreme than others
Others were just cracking jokes
Mostly importantly, it helped heal Sunday's fresh All Ireland wounds
