What you may not know is that the town shares its name with a death metal band from Akron, Ohio – Drogheda the band has been on the go since the 90s (as per this write-up), and have performed at metal festivals alongside Slayer and Motorhead.
Their albums have catchy titles like A Celebration of Violence, Ultrasonic Contempt, and Thug Anarchitect:
And the music is pretty heavy, as you might expect:
There is no evidence that they are actually inspired by the town – the name was given to them by their first singer, and disappointingly, there’s no reference to the Drogheda/Dundalk rivalry in the few interviews they’ve done.
We think that’d be fair inspiration for some metal songs, no? Every day is a school day, folks.
