Hundreds of people went to an early-morning rave in Dublin. And they were sober.

Honest.

HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE gathered in the centre of Dublin from 6.30am today for a rave.

And they weren’t even drunk. It was a drink and drug-free event, meant for people to go and have a dance before work. You had to be sober to go.

It’s called Morning Gloryville.

Around 300 people attended, according to Morning Gloryville Dublin organiser Ed Hurrell. He told DailyEdge.ie:

I think people are looking for an alternative to the daily grind. It’s a bit of liberation from that. People are beginning to see there are alternatives to going out and getting hammered.

The Morning Gloryville events began in London, before expanding to 12 other cities this summer.

It took place this morning at the Yoga Hub, off Camden Street in Dublin 2. (And coincidentally around the corner from Copper Face Jacks.)

“It’s about challenging people’s attitudes towards mornings,” says Ed. “People have a tendency to say ‘I can’t do this’ or ‘I can’t do that’ in the mornings.” But there was a fantastic energy here today.”

As well as the dancefloor there was a coffee bar, a free massage station, and yoga for anyone who was interested.

So is clubbing any fun when you’re sober? “I think clubbing is more fun when you’re not pissed,” Ed says. “When you’re just in a room with people and buzzing off them.”

That’s part of the reason for holding the event in the mornings, he adds.

I think in the evening there’d be a tendency to just go for a drink, and it would turn into a messy night.

The next Morning Gloryville takes place on August 6 at 6.30am. You can buy your tickets here.
