THE MUCH-ANTICIPATED EastEnders spin-off Redwater hit RTÉ One for the first time last night.
Kat and Alfie Moon arrived in the small seaside village of Redwater (Dunmore East in real life) searching for Kat’s long-lost son.
And there was an ominous backdrop to the sleepy village from the get go
Made worse by the presence of the evil (extremely hipster) Father Dermot
Which was a bone of contention early on
We were introduced to loads of local lads that *could* fit the bill as Kat’s son, but most Irish people were focused on two things throughout:
- Dumore East looked class
- They ticked off a serious amount of Irish stereotypes in the first episode
Like the scene in the pub early on
The dialogue didn’t exactly match up to real life
And there were plenty of others lining up with some criticisms
The hipster priest was a source of some good gags
He’s just a bit too cool (and evil)
But perhaps the one major criticism people had was the quality of the accents
They were fairly ~Oirish~
Not a Waterford accent in sight
John Mullane would be bulling.
But accent issues aside, plenty of people enjoyed the spin-off – and especially how Dunmore East came across
When it airs on BBC One on Thursday, so many people will get a gawk at one of Ireland’s best seaside towns
A *very* dramatic ending will surely see viewers coming back next week for more – as the show is here for another five weeks.
Welcome to Ireland, Kat and Alfie
Watch out for that priest.
