Ed Sheeran just posted his first tweet in a year and the internet is going mad
ONE YEAR AGO today, Ed Sheeran informed fans that he would be embarking on a break from social media, and ceased posting on Twitter and Instagram.
At the time, he explained that while he had enjoyed “an amazing ride over the last 5 years,” he was increasingly “seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes”.
He assured fans that a third album was on the way and that he would be back “next autumn”.
And now, one year later, Ed Sheeran has decided to grace us with his presence on the internet again.
This morning, he shared an image of a plain blue square on Twitter and Instagram.
And, er, that was it.

But when you’re Ed Sheeran, you can say nothing at all and still cause the internet to have a collective meltdown.
People are overjoyed to have him back in their life and crediting him with single-handedly saving 2016.

And busy trying to decipher what it all means.
Is he about to Beyoncé us?
For what it’s worth, BBC Newsbeat is reporting today that one of Sheeran’s closest collaborators, Amy Wadge, says his third album is ready to be unleashed on the world.
Wadge told BBC Newsbeat that the album will ‘break the internet’ when it’s released, but couldn’t be any more specific.
Oh, did we mention the tweet was sent at the exact same time his last tweet was sent?
And that today is Taylor Swift’s birthday? (Way to ruin her big day, Ed.)

Well played, Ed.
Not many could create excitement with a blue square, but you did it.
