Ed Sheeran's Wexford granny was just on the RTÉ News and it was pretty cute

“I never think of him as famous”

WITH ED SHEERAN’S new album dropping today, most of the focus in Ireland has been on the much-anticipated Galway Girl track.

He went big on the Irish references on that one anyway.

But another Irish song on the album is Nancy Mulligan – and it’s about his granny from Wexford:

So, naturally enough, the Six One news tracked her down – Anne “Nancy” Sheeran

She had the baby pictures out, as any self respecting granny would

The whole report was jam-packed with them

Ed will always be Ed for Nancy though:

“I never think of him as famous, I have to say, because he’s exactly the same as he always was when he visits and it’s very rare because he’s always working”

Then they actually played her the song written about her

The first time she’s heard it too.

Her review?

Yeah it’s fine. As long as I’m not there when he’s playing it.

“It’s fine” – every mam ever.

People were loving her appearance

Peak Irish news, really

And the childhood photos went down as well as you’d expect

Be a bit cringe for her when he whips Nancy Mulligan out at the next Irish gig she’s at.
