RYAN MCMULLAN IS a 25-year-old singer from the seaside town of Portaferry, Co Down.
He has been hailed locally as one to watch for the last number of years, but this morning he got his biggest break yet.
Ed Sheeran announced that he’s going to be one of the opening acts on his upcoming tour of Europe and the UK
Fresh from supporting Foy Vance on a similar tour last year, this is just another step up the ladder for McMullan
He’ll be down to play the two dates booked in for the 3Arena in April as well.
Ryan took to Facebook just after the announcement:
I guess the Secret is out
Ecstatic to announce I will be supporting the biggest superstar on the planet on his Europe and U.K. Legs of his Divide tour!
Here’s a clip of him belting out a tune in Whelan’s back in 2015 – that gives you some idea of his on stage chops
His sold out show in Belfast last month drew a rave review from GiggingNI:
Throughout the night the crowd fell on every note he played and every word he spoke or sang. Songs like ‘Holdin’ Me Down’, his covers of ‘The Streets of New York’ and ‘Black is the Colour’ transitioning into ‘Maniac 2000′ got the crowd singing cheerfully.
It is a great thing to see local talent flourish, to sell out a venue for two nights in a row and transitioning from playing in bars & pubs to main stages around the world is a simply outstanding achievement.
He has form for jamming with Sheeran – like when he was on stage with him at the Latitude Festival in Sussex, England last year
And here’s a session from his early days back in 2013
Onwards and upwards <3
