Edinburgh Zoo’s panda is believed to be pregnant

Tian Tian might be having a baby.

EDINBURGH ZOO HAS said that it believes that Tian Tian, its resident female panda, is pregnant and may give birth at the end of the month.

Tian Tian arrived at Edinburgh Zoo in 2011 and several attempts have been made to get her to mate with the male panda Yang Guang since her arrival, but to no avail. The panda was artificially inseminated last year, but is believed to have reabsorbed the foetus late term.

Experts have cautioned that they won’t know for certain whether or not she is pregnant until she gives birth, but they will continue to monitor the panda’s hormone and protein levels on a daily basis.

If Tian Tian does give birth, it will be the first giant panda to be born in Britain.

Just for good measure, here’s a GIF of a baby panda.
