WE NEVER THOUGHT we would see Will Ferrell and the Eurovision in the same sentence, and yet last week the Hollywood actor was in the thick of the celebrations at the 63rd annual song contest in Portugal.
And while many of us assumed he’d travelled to Lisbon on account of a soft spot he may have for the annual extravaganza, we were actually a little off-centre with that one.
According to Ray D’Arcy, who interviewed Ireland’s entry Ryan O’Shaughnessy on RTÉ Radio 1 this afternoon, the actor was actually doing research for an upcoming film – something which Ryan (and the rest of us) was fairly surprised to learn.
He’s making a movie on the Eurovision? Is that why he was there? We saw him walking around; we though he was just a fan! Oh, he’s a proper method actor? He likes to get involved?
But not as involved as Ryan might have expected, as it turned out Will reached his peak with the Irish contingent before Ryan even got a chance to meet him.
We did that blue carpet event, and I was last of the delegation to arrive and they all got pictures with Will and they were all having the craic with him.
But it wasn’t meant to be for poor Ryan…
By the time I arrived he was like ‘No, no, I’ve already seen the Irish, I don’t want any more of the Irish’. I didn’t even get to get a photo with him or get to meet him.
Sound Will, sound.
Unfortunately, Ryan didn’t secure us our eighth win, with Israel taking home the title this time around.
