How to recreate Fat Frog ice pops at home
Facebook Facebook
THE FAT FROG is an icon of the Irish summer. But it has been gone from our shelves for a long time. And each year, we ask HB the same question: when are they bringing Fat Frogs back?
Each summer, they give us the same answer: ‘We can’t confirm anything’.
So this year, we decided to take matters into our own hands. Here is how to make your own Fat Frog ice creams, for yourself and your friends.
(Note: this recipe is completely unofficial and in no way endorsed by HB).
First step: the mould
Easy peasy. Frog-shaped ice pop moulds are available on Amazon here. They’re not quite the same as the original Fat Frogs, but they’ll do.

Second step: the mixture
We haven’t been able to find an ingredient list for Fat Frogs, but we know that they are apple-flavoured… but more! When we compared notes with our office, the best we could come up with was ‘lime-y apple’.
Also, they have to be sweet. Very sweet.
So here’s what you’ll need for the flavour. For six or seven ice pops, depending on the size of your mould:
And also, a key ingredient…

… green food colouring. Just a few drops should do it.
Third step: Doing it
Mix up all the ingredients, pour them into the moulds, and put them in the freezer.

Enjoy!
ALTERNATE RECIPE: the boozy version
Remember when Fat Frogs were a thing people drank? Yes, they tasted kinda like the ice cream. And you had to make them between two pint glasses.
OR you could just mix them up at home and make boozy Fat Frog ice pops. Here’s the official student-approved cocktail recipe, not that you’ve forgotten it:
Mix, and watch it turn a weird green colour. (Warning: this will make a lot of ice pops, so either have the moulds ready or be prepared to drink the rest.)
