FOR IRISH PEOPLE of a certain age, the quintessential Irish ice pop of their childhoods will always be the Fat Frog.
And as any Fat Frog enthusiast well knows, they are no longer for sale.
Which is an absolute travesty of swamp-like proportions
Over the years, there have been calls to bring back the Fat Frog nearly every time the sun shines in Ireland. Back in 2014, HB told DailyEdge.ie that they couldn’t rule it out:
There’s clearly a lot of love out there for Fat Frogs and we’re really proud that one of our ice-creams has had such a big impact on the children of the 90’s! Without trying to be mysterious or mislead anybody on the subject of Fat Frogs, we would never definitively confirm or deny a relaunch of one of our classic ice-creams.
Coy.
The Facebook pages Fat Frog Ice Pops and Help Bring HB Fat Frogs back currently have over 200,000 likes between them – which shows the appetite is still out there for the limey-appley ice pop goodness that only the Frog can bring.
As recently as April this year, HB have had to field questions from Irish Fat Frog fans on Twitter – and they only have one query
To which they gave another vague answer
The most recent update – last September – on the main Facebook fan page isn’t promising though:
Just mailed HB again but not looking good on bringing back Fat Frogs
So the campaign obviously needs to get back some of its enthusiasm
Because the demand is clearly there
There’s a ravenous crop of Irish Fat Frog lovers just waiting every summer for the best damn ice pop ever produced to return to their lives
So many ice creams have gone, but none hurt more than the loss of the Fat Frog
The enthusiasm is evident
It’s a point of principle now
And while they’re at it, they should bring back the iconic song from the ad
This is the pressing ice pop issue of the day, and it won’t go away
If Freaky Foot deserved a comeback, Fat Frogs most certainly do too.
