IF YOU’RE CHRISTMAS shopping in Dublin over the next few days, stay on the look out for little gifts of literature hidden around the city centre.
Two final year Trinity students, Kelly Meehan Brown and Jack Maguire, dreamed up ‘Festive Fiction Finding’ as a way to raise money for charity this Christmas.
Every day since the 12th of December, they’ve been hiding books all around Dublin, wrapped in Christmassy wrapping paper and containing a note asking the finder to donate to Focus Ireland.
“We picked Focus Ireland as both of us are concerned with the rising number of homeless people in Ireland every year,” they told DailyEdge.ie.
Hundreds of books were donated by their fellow Trinity students earlier this month, and Kelly and Jack wrapped them all with their own hands:
So far, the books have been discovered all around Dublin City Centre, from Trinity College to South William Street to the Ilac Shopping Centre.
Kelly and Jack say the reaction to the project has been “amazing”:
We never expected to get so many donations of second hand books from the general public, nor did we expect this level of support.
Everyone who finds a book and sends them a picture of their donation will also be entered into a draw to win a lovely Christmas hamper containing all sorts of goodies:
Kelly and Jack will be hiding books in Dublin up until Christmas Eve, so keep those eyes peeled.
