FIRST DATES IRELAND finally hit Irish screens tonight after what seems like an age of anticipation.
Our hotly anticipated version of the Channel 4 reality show had a lot to live up to in the expectation stakes – and it definitely delivered.
Amy was the first ever contestant in for dinner
She went on a date with James – the typographer who could “talk for Ireland”
And yes, he lived up to that reputation.
He enjoys chatting about the shape of letters, mostly
Meanwhile, Frederica was next into the restaurant
Donegal man Lee was her date for the evening
His accent was the strongest Donegal accent imaginable, too:
James and Amy asked each other what their favourite meme was and bonded over anime
SO MUCH IN COMMON.
Meanwhile, Frederica searched for her hand sanitiser before the food came
Lee’s very Donegal response:
Ah, get out of it
She then asked about his, eh, doodle
His… penis. Lee?
It’s working well.
Grand.
It’s going OK though, even if the audience is worried about the hand sanitiser
The doodle confused so many people
Frederica stood up for an awkward hug half way through dinner too
It was morto for everyone watching, tbh.
Meanwhile, James and Amy got to the end of the date and the big question was waiting for them. Do they want to see each other again?
Both of them said yes!
First Dates Ireland’s very first couple agreed to go on a second date – even though we learned later that they haven’t *quite* made it to the zoo together.
Frederica asked Lee what age he thought she was. He said 29, but she’s actually 25
It didn’t go down well.
And when they got to the moment of truth, Lee had to break it to her that he didn’t see this going places.
It was only slightly awkward
Frederica was a bit of a star though:
She’ll be back later in the series, too.
And Lee’s brutal honesty throughout was SO Donegal:
That look when she was leaving spoke volumes, though
Simon was next up – and he was looking for a man with certain qualities: bearded, brawny and bald
Exactly like himself, then.
And Tynan fitted that description
First impressions from Tynan was straight and to the point:
We’re like twins.
Fair assessment.
The maitre d’ thought they had serious chemistry watching on
Simon shared some tough moments from his life over the last while, and Tynan and him seemed to be getting on VERY well. But the big question was still to come:
And of course they are going to see each other again
YES.
And they’ve even been on a second date already
The true love story of the night <3
It was the final contestant tonight that was to prove First Dates’ most controversial: Meet Darryl from Kildare
His date was with Amy from Wexford. She’s never been in a relationship before but she was looking for that special someone tonight
Of course, Darryl was a landscape architect, which led to the first obvious gag of the evening
And GAA was mentioned too, of course
Amy tried to guess his, eh, favoured position:
Viewers were a little skeptical of this fella, no doubt
Just as it seemed like it was going well
Darryl broke the news that he saw Amy as more of a friend
*hides behind the couch*
The lift ride and general atmosphere was THE WORST
But then Darryl hopped in a taxi and directed the driver to head to Coppers
WHAT.
The whole nation was watching and were devastated for Amy:
There was high hopes for them early on:
But the viewers absolutely turned on Darryl when he made that Coppers remark:
In summary, Amy was the true hero of the first ever episode:
Please let her return.
As an opening show, First Dates went down VERY well. The barman got major thumbs up too
*applause from the viewers*
We’ll see you next Thursday night
This looks like it’s going to be epic.
