Poll: Will the Garth Brooks controversy harm Ireland?

Storm in a teacup or an example of Irish incompetence?

ON THE FACE of it, the cancellation of two gigs by a country star that hasn’t released new music in over a decade shouldn’t dominate the news agenda.

However, the scale of the Garth Brooks gigs and the uproar the concerts have caused the international media to focus on Ireland.

Fianna Fáil’s tourism spokesperson Timmy Dooley says that the cancellation will “do nothing to promote Dublin or Ireland, and has the potential to damage our international image”. He also called on Tourism Minister Leo Varadkar to intervene.

But is it all a storm in a teacup? Or does the organisation of a drinking session in a place that brews beer come to mind?

We’re asking: Will the Garth Brooks controversy harm Ireland?
