GHOSTBUSTERS AND GHOSTBUSTERS 2 are some of the 80s most magnificent cinematic masterpieces. No question.
It’s understandable, then, that people are a little nervey about the idea of a third film. News that a script was being developed emerged a few years ago, with indications that the new film would feature a new team of Ghostbusters and the old crew as mentors. Bill Murray made some unenthusiastic comments in 2010, Dan Ackroyd said in 2012 that they had ‘more work to do’, and the whole thing seemed a little sketchy.
Now though, thanks to an Ackroyd appearance on Larry King Now, we’ve got an idea of what the plot might look like.
It’s based on new research that’s being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University. … There’s research being done that I can say that the world or the dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence—length, height, width and time—become threatened by some of the research that’s being done. Ghostbusters, new Ghostbusters, have to come and solve the problem.
Er…ok. It still sounds a little bit meh, right?
We’ll watch with interest of course, and let you know if Bill Murray gets involved, which is of course the most important factor.
In the meantime, let’s all watch the trailer for the original film.
