IF YOU’RE WANDERING around Limerick city today, you might see some strange and mysterious things.
For example, a bus is winding its way through town filled with hundreds and hundreds of potatoes.
Er, what?
But that’s not the only strange thing happening in Limerick these days.
Yesterday, a giant safe was discovered crushing a parked car on O’Connell Street.
And today, Gardai were pictured checking out some mysterious giant footprints.
What the hell is going on?
Well, Granny is coming to visit.
A 25ft tall giant Granny will roam the streets of Limerick this weekend as part of the biggest event of Limerick City of Culture 2014.
Created by the French street theatre company Royal de Luxe, the giant Granny ‘awoke’ on the streets of Liverpool in June and will reside in Limerick from 5- 7 September.
It takes 70 people in total to operate the Granny, who will “eat, drink and sleep” on the streets of the city this weekend.
The event organisers are expecting 100,000 visitors to come see the Granny over the three days – the largest event in the city since the Pope came to visit in 1979.
If you can’t get down yourself, follow the weekend’s events on the Twitter hashtag #LimerickGiant.
