The New York Times suggested making guacamole with peas and the internet exploded

What fresh hell is this? Even Obama was forced to get involved.

IT SEEMED LIKE such an innocent recipe suggestion, but it’s turned into online chaos.

The New York Times – esteemed publisher as they are - sent out this simple but innovative take on guacamole last night:

Peas… in guacamole? Absolutely nobody was buying it

The tweet provoked so much anger

It went all the way to The White House, where even President Obama needed to have his say

The avocado-based dip often does include all of Obama’s suggestions – but rarely do you see peas anywhere near it. These little things – in guacamole?

The hate was strong, as the tweet went super viral

The “trust us” line didn’t sit well with some people

And there were useful suggestions for The Times to take on board

But mostly it was just an utter rejection of peas and guacamole as a concept

You used to be cool, NYT

But just as you thought The New York Times had dug themselves as far as they could go – they tried to redeem the situation

Separate recipes for both peas and guacamole? Away with you, New York Times.

Please relax – you can’t redeem the original suggestion

U ok NYT?

There was just so much anger out there

And accusations that it was the New York elite trying to change guacamole

The hastily set up parody Twitter account had an answer for them

So much drama.

The lesson here for The New York Times? Don’t mess with people’s guacamole. Nothing good will ever come of it.
