Haim fired their agent after they were paid ten times less than a male artist

Seriously; ten times less.

MATTERS OF GENDER inequality within the workplace have dominated headlines in recent months, with social movements and countless column inches dedicated to the matter.

TIMES UP SLAMA

And with numerous female stars having already come forward with their experience of gender inequality, more and more women within the entertainment industry have felt confident enough to do the same.

Take HAIM, for example.

The Californian three-piece recently spoke to Grazia, and revealed that they had once been paid ten times less than a male artist at the same festival.

Ten times less, people.

The revelation understandably left the sisters reeling, and they ultimately chose to fire their agent as a result.

Elaborating on the details of the matter, Danielle explained that they were initially content with their fee.

We had been told that our fee was very low because you played at the festival in the hope that you’d get played on the radio. We didn’t think twice about it, but we later found out that someone was getting paid 10 times more than us. And because of that we fired our agent.

As these instances come to the fore more and more, the band explain that they are grateful they can act as a support to one another in the face of such adversity.

That’s why I love my sisters so much. I trust them with my fucking life. We’re all in this together. But it’s scary out there and it’s fucked up.

We mean, one-tenth.

It’s fucked up not even to be paid half the same amount. But to be paid a tenth of that amount of money? It was insane. It’s so hard to check: everything’s so secretive about how much people are getting paid, and that’s bullshit.

Haim played Dublin’s Olympia Theatre last night.
