Boy suspended from school for refusing to remove his handbag

Handbags at dawn!

A 13-YEAR-OLD boy has been suspended from a school in Kansas for refusing to take off a handbag.

Skylar Davis says that he had been bringing the colourful bag to school for several months with no issues.

Speaking to KCTV5 he said the designer Vera Bradley item helps him to express himself, and that girls in the school are allowed to carry similar items with no problems.

So when he was suddenly asked to remove the bag, he refused.

Skylar’s mother said that she’s consulted the school’s rulebook and can find no reference to students carrying small handbags.

The school has rejected suggestions that the student is being discriminated against on gender grounds, and said that the teenagers are forbidden from having items like bags with them in class.

Even the bag’s designer has gotten involved, issuing a statement which reads:

We encourage self-expression through color and design.

KCTV5 also reports that retailers have got in touch to offer Skylar  products.
