DUTCH HOUSE DJ Hardwell has announced the cancellation of a major show in Edinburgh tonight, following fears over crowd safety at shows in Belfast and Dublin.
In a statement on the tour Facebook page, organisers wrote that local authorities had decided to pull the plug on the event.
The move comes after at least seven young people were hospitalised for intoxication outside the DJ’s show at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena on Thursday.
Hardwell played at Dublin’s O2 Arena last night. According to the Irish Independent, gardaí put extra security efforts in place for the event following the problems in Belfast. However, no serious incidents were reported.
Hardwell’s Facebook statement read:
We are extremely sorry to have to announce the cancellation of I AM HARDWELL Edinburgh [...] After a lengthy meeting the local promoter has had with the City Chambers in Edinburgh, licencing board and the Police Scotland, the decision to withdraw the license has been made by the local authorities.
Superintendent Matt Richards told the Edinburgh News that police had had concerns about the gig after “recent information… relating to public safety at events held elsewhere”.
However, one fan expressed his anger that the show had been cancelled “because of something that happened in another country”.
