Here's why people on Twitter are celebrating 'Nadine Coyle Day' today

TODAY, IRISH POP-STAR Nadine Coyle is celebrating her 33rd birthday.
Thanks to her appearance on Irish Popstars back in 2001, we’re all celebrating with her. As you may recall, poor Nadine was caught rapid lying about her age on the singing competition, which required contestants to be at least 18 years old.
Here’s the short version of the incident:
And here’s the longer, more dramatic version which features Nadine having a very stern sit-down with Linda Martin who begs the teenager to be honest with her. Nadine deserves an Oscar for that feigned attempt to search through her bags for her passport, and as Brian Dowling points out in the video below, her mother also deserves Best Supporting Actress.
It’s important to remember that Nadine was just sixteen years old when this went down. Think of all of the stupid lies you thought you were going to get away with telling when you were a teenager. We’ve all been there once or twice, but never on the biggest reality TV show that Ireland had seen at the time.

We don’t even feel sorry for Nadine, because this was the best thing that possibly could have happened to her. Do you recall the names of even one of the other contestants on Irish Popstars? Do you know where the pop-group Six are in 2018? No.
The attention Nadine received from this legendary f**k-up has served her so well in life. She joined Girls Aloud, the biggest UK girl-group of the noughties, and she has been immortalised as a brilliant meme.

Not only that, but some of the actresses from Derry Girls actually used Nadine Coyle’s videos to train themselves to speak in a Derry accent. Without Nadine, the original Derry Girl, the amazing TV show that is Derry Girls may not have been the same.
Can you think of a more inspirational story? Today you might feel like Nadine Coyle pretending to search for her passport in a holdall with Linda Martin breathing down your neck. But tomorrow? Tomorrow you could be in Girls Aloud, who are considerably more famous than Linda Martin. Hang in there. Things will get better.
Today, on the Fufteynth of the Sikth, Nadine’s not only celebrating her birthday but being honoured by fans on social media.
As Nadine nears an age where she may start to consider lying about her date of birth again (only for another reason, this time), fans are fondly remembering how they know what her star-sign is.
