A simple ad campaign for highlighters is winning a lot of praise online
IF YOU’VE WATCHED ‘Mad Men’ you’ll know that advertising is an industry that tends to prey on our insecurities.
Often we’re told if we buy a certain product then we’ll finally be the person that we all want to be. This applies to everything from lip fillers to deodorant to chocolate spread.

So it comes as a bit of a surprise that an advertising campaign for highlighters is being deemed as empowering and forward thinking. After all, we only seem to care about highlighters around exam time.
Stabilo Boss launched this campaign in Germany back in April but it’s only started to gain traction now online and it’s easy to see why.

The campaign is called ‘Highlight the Remarkable’ and aims to highlight women who were influential in a world event and who were overlooked, forgotten about or just written out of history altogether.
These three women are just some of the women who made huge contributions to society and yet were simply written out of history. For example, Lise Meitner’s male partner was awarded the Nobel Prize instead of her. The same thing happened to Rosalind Franklin whose research towards understanding the structure of DNA was never acknowledged at the time and only came to light much, much later.
The idea behind the campaign is pretty simple but very, very clever.
A lot of people are pretty impressed with the campaign and it’s easy to see why.
If you’ll excuse me, I need to go buy some highlighters.
