7 things that made everyone watch Home Improvement
TODAY SEES ACTOR Tim Allen turn 60.
Not only was he in The Santa Clause movies and the voice of Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story films he was the star of a surprisingly big 90s sitcom.
We are of course talking about Home Improvement which was a show that everybody seemed to end up watching at some point.
Sure we can act like we are all watching the much cooler Seinfeld but chances are you and your family watched a fair bit of this show back in the day, mainly for the following reasons.
1. All the grunting
Tim Allen seemed to think his main key to being funny was to grunt all the time

Which as catchphrases go is an unusual one (not forgetting Tim’s famous line “MORE POWER!”)

2. The mysterious Wilson
Why did we never see his face properly?
What did Wilson have to hide?
Sigh.

3. The Tool Time Girl
It might seem a bit dated now but for some people the Tool Time Girl was their first experience of a hot lady on the telly.
The original was Pamela Anderson before her Baywatch role took off and it seems like she would appear on other shows showing off her DIY skills

Then Pamela was replaced with Debbe Dunning as Heidi who was no Pam but fair play to her all the same.

4. General Tool Time silliness
The main joke on Home Improvement was that Tim Taylor was a really bad handyman and the show within a show Tool Time was a series of accidents every week.
Given how unsophisticated the show was it seems odd they’d basically write another one into the middle of it

5. Jonathan Taylor Thomas

He became something of a teen heartthrob as Home Improvement kept going and he even voiced Young Simba in The Lion King.
Amazing.

6. The kids being general messers

They made you feel totally fine about talking back to your own parents and anyone with brothers could relate to their carry on.

And then they got to hang out with Michelle Williams when she was very young and wasn’t starring in proper movies just yet

7. Al, the ultimate sidekick
He was constantly in a flannel shirt and never seemed to know what was going but there was something endearing about Tim’s Tool Time buddy Al.
