Hozier has recorded an impassioned message in support of marriage equality

The singer states that he believes the issue is a matter of “basic human rights”.

HOZIER HAS BEEN a longtime supporter of the marriage equality movement, having previously called on Irish people to vote in the forthcoming referendum and even getting into a spat with Fidelma Healy Eames on the issue.

Now the Bray singer has recorded a powerful two-minute video on behalf of Straight Up For Equality.

In the video, the singer passionately outlines his reasons for supporting marriage equality and encourages people to get out and vote.

He states that some of those opposed to gay marriage are guilty of “fear-mongering” and “outright deception”.

He further states that anyone who “want[s] to be proud to live in a nation that does not discriminate or implicitly condemn” should cast their vote.

So, to anyone who feels that the love between two people is not to be belittled or othered or developed or undermined, I would encourage you to vote.

Hozier is just the latest musician to record a video on behalf of Straight Up For Equality. Ellie Goulding and The Script are among the other notable figures that have declared their support.
