DURING THE BRIEF Irish summer we’re experiencing, we are socially obliged to go outside to the lovely sunshine and enjoy ourselves.
One way to make such back garden hangouts even better is to make your own alcohol-infused ice pops.
Before you get into the delicious recipes, you’ll need to get your hands on ice pop molds from pretty much any supermarket. Then, you can try your hand at these tasty-looking options:
1. White sangria ice lollies
You’re going to have to resist the temptation to drink the sangria once you’ve made it, but waiting the extra five hours needed to make these ice pops will be well worth it. With a total of just five ingredients, white wine sangria pops are a simple way to get started in this game.
2. Nectarine Bellini ice pops
A delightful summer recipe that even calls for a dash of champagne in with the peach – or sparkling white wine for those of us not bothered wasting champagne on ice pops.
Its looks unbelievable, though.
3. Watermelon tequila wedges
That fruity fresh combination of watermelon and lime – combined with tequila – can be yours if you follow this simple recipe from SheKnows.
4. Strawberry red wine pops
A very easy recipe from Pastry Affair will yield these absolute beauts – and make a nice variation on a glass of wine in the sun.
5. French 75 ice pops
This ice pop combines fresh lemon juice, gin and… champagne. Again, whether you want to use champagne in an ice lolly is your call – perhaps it could be a pop for a celebratory occasion*.
*all classy celebratory occasions in summer feature ice pops, obviously.
6. Tropical tequila sunrise
All it takes is pineapple, tequila, and some grenadine to make this ultimate summer experience, thanks to the excellent realfoodbydad recipe blog.
7. Watermelon and mint gin pops
Using gin this time instead of tequila, SheKnows has another tasty recipe to get the most from your watermelon. Starting with these ingredients:
Place watermelon, water, limeade, sugar, gin and a few mint leaves into a blender. Blend on high until mixture is smooth
Delish.
8. Bacon Bloody Mary
This is the high point for boozy ice pops – and a complex enough operation. You’ll need a casual ingredients list of:
Bacon, vodka, brown sugar, chili powder, breadsticks, tomato juice, lemon juice, horseradish, celery salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce
No pressure, then. For full cooking, mixing and freezing directions head here - and good luck.
Please, summer, never leave us. This sort of thing can only be attempted when the sun is properly shining.
