Equality activists create LGBT-friendly IKEA catalogue after Russian controversy
LAST WEEK IKEA made the decision to remove an interview with a lesbian couple from the Russian version of its IKEA Family Live magazine.
The Swedish company said it feared legal problems if it went ahead with the publication, owing to Russia’s law which bans “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations”.
An article based on London couple Clara and Kirsty was replaced with a piece about a Chinese couple in the Russian IKEA magazine.
Now a group of equality activists has produced a guerilla-style LGBT-friendly photoshoot in one of IKEA’s New York branches.
The IQEA catalogue features gay and lesbian families and was produced by Joseph Huff-Hannon, who’s the co-editor of the book Gay Propaganda, Russian Love Stories, which the IQEA site promotes.
