The Big Snow of 1982 in Delgany, Co. Wicklow.

Who remembers Ireland's 'Big Snow' of 1982?

Check out these vintage videos.

IRELAND IS CURRENTLY in the grasp of a Christmas weather warning with high winds, wintry showers and black ice forecast for many areas.

However, it’s a far cry from some of the big freezes we’ve witnessed in recent years (any excuse to revisit the man who fell on the ice).

And then of course, there’s the big one… the Big Snow of 1982.

On 8 January 1982 a severe cold spell began across Ireland which saw Ireland covered in snow until 15 January. The east of the country was the worst affected with 25 centimetres falling at Dublin Airport.

We’ve dug up some vintage YouTube videos…
