Saoirse Ronan, Colin Farrell and Michael Fassbender all just named as 'British' for London film awards
Saoirse Ronan in Brookyn. Cut her open and she'll bleed Kerrygold.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: The London Film Critics Circle has renamed the categories to include British/Irish Actor, Actress and Filmmaker.
ANOTHER AWARDS NOMINATION announcement, another hames made of calling Irish people ‘British’.
This time it’s the London Film Critics Circle, who’ve got together in their circle and decided that Saoirse Ronan, Colin Farrell and Michael Fassbender are all British.
While Ronan and Fassbender are all nominated in their international categories (grand), they’re also nominated in these categories (not grand):
Irish-born, Canada-living Emma Donoghue is also nominated as “Breakthrough British Filmmaker of the Year” for Room (she wrote the novel and the screenplay). Not grand.
Brooklyn is also referred to as a ‘British’ film. No*.
We have been through this! To recap:
Hozier isn’t British, Paul Dunne isn’t British, Colin Farrell isn’t British, Conor McGregor isn’t British, Michael Fassbender** isn’t British and Saoirse Ronan*** most certainly isn’t British.
GET YOUR OWN DEADLY PEOPLE.
*Okay so it received some BBC funding, but there was so much Enniscorthy. The lad from The Gloaming sang a song. Come off it!
**Okay so he’s German-Irish. But he grew up in Kerry and there are the school pictures to prove it.
* *And Saoirse Ronan was born in New York, but she’s as Carlow as they come. Quare Carlow.
