This Irish deli in Queens sells everything from curry chips to Sudocrem

Everything an Irish emigrant could ever want.

A FEW DAYS ago, we told you about The Chipper Truck, a food truck in The Bronx that sells such delights as breakfast rolls, taco cheese chips and Club Orange.

And now it seems that there’s an Irish deli in Queens doing its utmost to satisfy the cravings of Irish people in New York.

Shelly’s Café and Deli is run by a woman named Michelle from Newry, Co. Down.

Michelle tells DailyEdge.ie that she opened the deli 14 months ago. It is one of just a handful of Irish stores in Queens and the only one run and operated by an Irish person, Michelle told us.

The café and deli serves Irish favourites like jambons, sausage rolls, caramel squares, curry chips, coleslaw-stuffed sandwiches and a munchybox

As Michelle put it, “Things you just don’t get here!”

The café opens at 5.30am every morning to feed construction workers and closes at 10pm every night.

And it’s not just Irish people that stop in.

I find we have a wide range of customers, not only Irish. We get every walk of life and they love our food. Unlike home, you don’t stumble upon shops with hot food ready to go here so it’s really convenient.

Look at all that coleslaw.

Here’s their version of curry cheese chips

Barry’s Tea and sausage rolls – what more could you want?

The taste of home (and hangovers).

And of course they do the requisite dirty fry

COME TO MAMA.

But it’s not just dirty deli food – they also do Irish comfort food like lasagne and chips

The kind of dinners you had after school as a kid.

Did we mention they sell Sudocrem?

Bringing Baldoyle’s greatest export to the Big Apple.

As well as a range of other Irish produce like crisps, chocolates and other groceries

Michelle tells us she was inspired to open the store after she moved to New York six years ago and didn’t know where to procure Heinz beans.

And so far, locals love it.
