WHEN WE LAST left Bridget Jones, she was happily reunited with the lovely Mark Darcy after escaping a prison in south east Asia following a mix up about drugs.

Now she’s back, and the publishers of the third Bridget Jones book have revealed the cover of Helen Fielding’s novel along with some potentially devastating news.

An excerpt released along with the cover reveals that Bridget may be once again single, as she discussing the perils of drunk texting:

What about the lovely Mark Darcy?!

There are hints too that Bridget may have given birth in the intervening years, judging by the toys on the front cover and the title “Mad About the Boy”.

Fans will have to wait until October though, when the book is released.

Fielding has said:

My life has moved on, and Bridget’s will move on, too.

Publishers Knopf instigated a clever Facebook campaign to encourage people to “like” their Bridget Jones page, which saw the contents of a virtual bottle of wine diminish with every new fan.

Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant have appeared in two films based on Fielding’s first two books, but it’s not clear if a third movie will be released following the publication of the new novel.
