ALL THE TALK today has been of Damien Lewis’ sudden rise to the position of bookies’ favourite to become the next James Bond.
Others said to be in the running to take over from Daniel Craig include Idris Elba, Tom Hardy and Henry Cavill.
But what about an Irish Bond? One of these lads probably won’t follow in Pierce Brosnan’s footsteps, but just imagine it:
1. Michael Fassbender
He’s actually in the running, according to the bookies – so this one might come true. Imagine the Fass on the big screen as Bond.
Yeah, everyone would love it.
2. Colin Farrell
Imagine Col suiting up as 007. He’d bring a hardened Dublin edge to the role, anyway.
3. Jamie Dornan
Can he replace the Belfast accent with a suave English one? Who cares? It would be Jamie Dornan as Bond. The world wouldn’t care about the Nordie twang.
4. Cillian Murphy
A Corkman as Bond? We can but dream.
5. Domhnall Gleeson
His English accent was only sublime in About Time, Gleeson is the dark horse for Bond you’ve never even considered*.
*probably because it will never happen.
6. Robert Sheehan
He would bring a much needed cool, hipster edge to Bond. And with his Love/Hate background, carrying weapons is certainly part of his skill set.
7. Jack Reynor
He’s only 23 years old, so plenty of time yet for young Reynor if he misses out on Bond this time. One for the future, certainly.
8. Chris O’Dowd
Yes, James Bond should go in a brand new comedic direction – and who better than O’Dowd to take him there?
9. Aidan Turner
One of Ireland’s finest acting exports could do a job as Bond. Sure, the UK has already fallen in love with him in Poldark – this is the next logical step.
10. Colin O’Donoghue
Just look at him there. Starring in Once Upon a Time and The Tudors sets him up perfectly for 007 – and completes the set of Irish actors who would look great in the 007 suit.
*dreams big*
