IT HAS BEEN alleged that Jason Statham used a homophobic slur on the set of his 2015 film, Wild Card, during a conversation with Steve Casman.
According to 50-year-old Statham, the allegation surfaced in 2017 when he was approached with a report that the private conversation had been recorded on tape.
While apparently sceptical of the accusation levelled against him, the actor, who shares a child with model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, has this week issued a statement on the matter, emphasing that requests to hear the offending recording have been denied.
Someone approached me claiming to have a tape of me using terms offensive to the LGBTQ community during a conversation I had with my producing partner, on a movie set five years ago. I have never heard the recording and my multiple requests to hear the recording have been refused.
The actor, who is said to have repeatedly used the term ‘f***ing f**s’ in the recording, stressed that if this was indeed the case, the offending words do not reflect his feelings towards the gay community.
However, let me be clear, if I said these words, I was wrong and I deeply apologise. Anyone who knows me knows it doesn’t reflect how I feel about the LGBTQ community.
The British-born star turned his attention to the future, suggesting the incident is something from which he can learn from.
While I cannot fix what was said in the past, I can learn from it and do better in the future.
Reports state that the slurs were recorded by RJ Cipriani, an associate producer on Wild Card.
